ASTM B161 – This specification covers the standard requirements for nickel (UNS N02200) and low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201) in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube. The material shall conform to the specified chemical composition limits for nickel, copper, iron, manganese, carbon, silicon, and sulfur which shall be determined by chemical analysis. Tension test shall be performed; wherein, the tensile properties for the material specified as small-diameter and light-wall tube shall be in conformity with the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation requirements. Each pipe or tube shall also be subjected to nondestructive electric test or hydrostatic test in accordance with a referenced ASTM document to determine the allowable fiber stress for the annealed and stress-relieved materials.
ASTM B163 – This specification covers seamless tubes of nickel and nickel alloy for use in condenser and heat-exchanger service. This covers outside diameter and average wall, or outside diameter and minimum wall tube. Tube shall be furnished in the alloys and conditions defined by this specification. The material shall conform to the composition limits of nickel, copper, molybdenum, iron, manganese, carbon, silicon, chromium, aluminium, titanium, phosphorus, cerium, zirconium, yttrium, born, cobalt, columblum, tungsten, and nitrogen specified. Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Rockwell hardness of the material shall conform to the required mechanical properties set by this specification. Test methods such as chemical analysis, tension, rounding procedure, Rockwell hardness, grain size and hardness conversion shall be performed.
ASTM B165 – This specification covers nickel-copper alloy UNS N04400 in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube. The material shall conform to the composition limits specified. Tension test, hydrostatic test, nondestructive electric test, and rounding method shall be done in accordance to the specified requirements.
ASTM B167 – This specification covers nickel-chromium-iron alloys (UNS N06600, N06601, N06603, N06690, N06693, N06025, N06045, and N06696) and nickel-chromium-cobalt molybdenum alloy (UNS N06617) in cold-worked annealed, hot-worked annealed, and hot-finished seamless pipe and tube intended for general corrosion resistant and heat resistant applications. The material shall conform to the required chemical composition for nickel, chromium, iron, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, aluminum, carbon, copper, boron, silicon, sulfur, titanium, niobium, phosphorous, zirconium, yttrium, and cerium. The following test methods shall be performed on the alloys, namely: chemical analysis, tension test, and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test. The material shall conform to the required mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, nondestructive electric test, and rounding method.
ASTM B338 – This specification covers 28 grades of seamless and welded titanium alloy tubes for surface condensers, evaporators, and heat exchangers. Seamless tube shall be made from hollow billet by any cold reducing or cold drawing process that will yield a product meeting the requirements prescribed. Welded tube shall be made from flat-rolled product by an automatic arc-welding process. The welded tube shall be sufficiently cold worked to final size in order to transform the cast weld microstructure into a typical equiaxed microstructure in the weld upon subsequent heat treatment. The titanium shall conform to the chemical requirements prescribed. The room temperature tensile properties of the tube in the condition normally supplied shall conform to the requirements prescribed. Tubing shall withstand, without cracking, flattening under a load applied gradually at room temperature until the distance between the load platens is not more than the required height. Welded tube shall be subjected to a reverse flattening test in accordance with supplement II of test methods and definitions A 370. Welded tubing shall be tested using both a non-destructive electromagnetic test and an ultrasonic test method. Seamless and welded/cold worked tubing shall be tested using an ultrasonic test method. Welded tubing shall be tested with a hydrostatic or pneumatic test method. Seamless tubing shall be tested with an electromagnetic or hydrostatic or pneumatic test method.
ASTM B444 – This specification covers UNS N06625 and UNS N06852 nickel-chromium-molybdenum-columbium alloys and UNS N06219 nickel-chromium-molybdenum-silicon alloy in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube. UNS N06625 products are furnished in annealed Grade 1 and solution annealed Grade 2 while UNS N06219 and UNS N06852 are in solution annealed condition only. Chemical testing shall be performed on each type of material and shall conform to the chemical composition limits specified for carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, tantalum, columbium, cobalt, molybdenum, iron, aluminum, titanium, copper, and nickel. The material shall undergo tensile testing and shall conform to the required room temperature tensile properties like tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation depending on the heat treatment used and including small diameter and light-walled tubing. Each pipe or tube shall undergo hydrostatic testing and shall conform to the allowable fiber stress and also be examined with a nondestructive electric test as prescribed.
ASTM B514 – This specification covers nickel-iron-chromium alloys in the form of welded, cold-worked, and annealed pipe for general corrosive service and heat resisting applications. These products are furnished three alloys: UNS N08120, UNS N0880, and UNS N08810. The materials shall conform to the required chemical composition for nickel, chromium, iron, manganese, carbon, copper, silicon, sulfur, aluminum, titanium, columbium, molybdenum, phosphorus, tungsten, cobalt, and nitrogen. The materials shall conform to the required mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. A transverse sample representing the full wall thickness of annealed alloys UNS N08120 and N08810 shall conform to the average grain size. Pipe shall be capable of withstanding, without cracking, flattening under a load applied gradually. Each piece of each lot shall be subjected to hydrostatic test, pneumatic test, eddy current test, ultrasonic test, leak test, electric test, and transverse guided bend test.
ASTM B521 – This specification covers tantalum and tantalum alloy seamless and welded tubes of the following grades: UNS Grade R05400 which is unalloyed tantalum, powder-metallurgy consolidation, UNS Grade R05200 which is unalloyed tantalum, vacuum melted, UNS Grade R05252 which is tantalum with 2.5% tungsten alloy, vacuum melted, UNS Grade R05255 which is tantalum with 10% tungsten alloy, vacuum melted, and UNS Grade R05240 which is tantalum alloy with 60% tantalum, 40% columbium, electron-beam furnace or vacuum arc melted, or both. Seamless tube shall be made by any seamless method and the welded tube shall be made from flat-rolled product by an automatic or semiautomatic fusion welding process with no addition of filler metal. Mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation shall be determined by tensile, flare, and reverse flattening tests. Nondestructive tests such as hydrostatic test, pneumatic test, helium leak test, and ultrasonic test shall be done as well.
ASTM B619 – This specification covers welded pipe of nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys (UNS N10001; UNS N10242; UNS N10665; UNS N12160; UNS N10624; UNS N10629; UNS N10675; UNS N10276; UNS N06455; UNS N06007; UNS N06975; UNS N08230; UNS 06002; UNS N06022; UNS N06035; UNS N06058; UNS N06059; UNS N06200; UNS N06985; UNS N06030; UNS R30556; UNS N08031; UNS N06230; UNS N06686; UNS N06210; and UNS R20033). Two classes of pipe are covered as Class I which is as welded and solution annealed or welded and sized and solution annealed; and Class II which is welded, cold worked, and solution annealed. All pipes shall be furnished in the solution annealed and descaled condition. The pipe shall be made from flat-rolled alloy by an automatic welding process with no addition of filler metal. Subsequent to welding and prior to final heat treatment, Class II pipes shall be cold worked either in both weld and base metal or in weld metal only. The material shall conform to the composition limits set by this specification. Tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the material shall conform to the mechanical requirements. Tension test, flattening test, transverse guided bend test, and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test shall be performed.
ASTM B622 – This specification covers seamless pipe and tube of nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys (UNS N10001, UNS N10242, UNS N10665, UNS N12160, UNS N10675, UNS N10276, UNS N06455, UNS N06007, UNS N08320, UNS N06975, UNS N06002, UNS N06985, UNS N06022, UNS N06035, UNS N06044, UNS N08135, UNS N06255, UNS N06058, UNS N06059, UNS N06200, UNS N10362, UNS N06030, UNS N08031, UNS N08034, UNS R30556, UNS N08535, UNS N06250, UNS N06060, UNS N06230, UNS N06686, UNS N10629, UNS N06210, UNS N10624, and UNS R20033)3 as shown in Table 1.
ASTM B626 – This specification covers welded tubes made from nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys with UNS Nos. N10001, N10242, N10665, N12160, N10629, N10624, N10675, N10276, N06455, N06007, N06975, N08320, N06985, N06002, N06022, N06030, N06035, N06058, N06059, N06200, N06210, N08031, R30556, N06230, N06686, and R20033. These alloys are intended for heat exchanger and condenser tubes and tubes for general corrosive service for heat-resisting applications. The tubes shall be made from flat-rolled alloy by an automatic welding process with no addition of filler metal, and shall be furnished in the solution annealed and descaled conditions. Materials shall adhere to mechanical (tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation), chemical composition, flattening test, flange test, hydrostatic test, pneumatic test, and eddy current test requirements.
ASTM B670 – This specification covers rolled precipitation hardening nickel alloy (UNS N07718) plate, sheet, and strip in the annealed condition (temper) for high-temperature service. The material shall conform to the chemical requirements for carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, columbium, niobium, tantalum, titanium, aluminum, iron, copper, nickel, and boron. The material after precipitation hardening shall conform to the mechanical property requirements for tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. Stress-rupture test shall be performed in accordance to referenced ASTM documents itemized herein.
ASTM B725 – This specification covers UNS N02200 nickel alloy and UNS N02201 and N04400 low carbon nickel alloy welded pipes intended for general corrosive service and for mechanical applications. Each pipe should either be welded and annealed or welded and stress relieved and made from the flat-rolled alloys by an automatic welding process without any filler metal additions. The pipes should also be cold worked after welding to ensure the development of optimum corrosion resistance in the weld area and base metal during the final heat treatment.
ASTM B730 – This specification covers nickel (UNS N02200), low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201), and nickel copper alloy (UNS N04400) in the form of welded and annealed or welded and stress-relieved tube intended for general corrosive service and for mechanical applications.
ASTM B751 – This general specification contains the mandatory requirements to the ASTM standards listed herein for longitudinally welded tubular products made from nickel and nickel alloys. In case of conflict, the requirements listed in the particular product specification takes precedence over those listed here.
ASTM B775 – This general specification contains the mandatory requirements to the ASTM standards listed herein for longitudinally welded piping made from nickel and nickel alloys.
ASTM B829 – This general specification contains the mandatory requirements to the ASTM standards listed herein for seamless pipes and tubes made from nickel and nickel alloys.
